Buckhanon Wins Seventh GCAC Weekly Honor

NEW ORLEANS, La.-- This afternoon, the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference's Sports Information Directors voted Fisk University's Maya Buckhanon the women's basketball Player of the Week for the seventh time this season. The senior from Talladega, Alabama averaged 23.7 points per game and 14.7 rebounds, helping her team go 3-0 for the week. In the win against Oakwood, she scored 23 points and 11 rebounds. In the hard-fought win against Dillard, she scored 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. Her two late three-point plays helped to prevent a close-of-the-game rally by Dillard. In limited minutes against a short-handed Southern University of New Orleans team, she scored 18 points and had 18 rebounds. 

Buckhanon is now fourth in the country in scoring average (23.6) and leads the NAIA in rebounds per game (15.6).
