Men’s Basketball to Send Two to HBCU All Star Game
Mark Cooper and Nicholas Beaird-Kennard Will Represent Fisk on a National Stage
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - In 1836, San Antonio, Texas was the site of a Spanish mission for freedom called the Alamo. From the mission, we have learned the term, 'Remember The Alamo'. For two graduating Fisk University Men's Basketball players, San Antonio will be a memorable place as well for them. Grad student Nicholas Beaird-Kennard and senior Mark Cooper have earned the right to represent the blue and gold of Fisk one more time. Both were selected to play in the HBCU Live Xperience All Star Game, showcasing the top NAIA HBCU men's and women's talent in the country.
Beaird-Kennard, a transfer from Oakwood University, led the HBCU Athletic Conference in three-pointers made this season with 77, while Cooper led the country in assists per game average at 6.7
"Both Nic and Mark have represented our program well. This is a well-deserved honor. This is also special because both are from Nashville. This is a win for the university and the city," said Fisk head coach Jeremiah Crutcher.
Sponsored by the Urban League of San Antonio, the HBCU Live Xperience is a two-day celebration of the history, legacy, and culture of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. This dynamic weekend brings together students, families, alumni, and community members for an unforgettable experience rooted in education, culture, and opportunity.
"The HBCU Live Xperience is built on a proven foundation. Since 2022, we have successfully delivered HBCU basketball events through invitationals, classics, and conference challenges," said event host Mario Davis. ''This is more than an event, it's a unified platform that authentically reflects the depth of HBCU history, culture, and athletic excellence."
Taking place April 17–18, the event will feature a statewide College & Career Fair connecting more than 1,000 high school students with colleges and universities, the inaugural Step X step show celebrating the rich tradition of HBCU stepping, and to cap it off, the HBCU Live Xperience All-Star Basketball Games.
