NASHVILLE-- The Fisk University Lady Bulldog basketball team gave the full house homecoming crowd a lot to cheer about in their 91-44 win over Wilberforce University. After missing the first three games of the season, senior Maya Buckhanon gave the Lady Bulldogs the lift they needed, scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds in her first game of the season. Front line mates Maurecia Mathis and A'Niya Young chipped in 11 apiece to lead a balanced attack that saw 12 Fisk players score at least two points.
"Having Maya back sure helped, didn't it," said a happy Fisk head coach, Victoria Crawford. "We dumped it down to her early, which freed up our shooters. Scoring 91 points is great, but our defense also held them down. Great complementary effort tonight. We need to clean up the turnovers, though."
The defense forced Wilberforce into shooting 23 percent from the field. They were 0-of-15 from behind the arc. Fisk forced 24 turnovers on 12 steals but committed 23 of their own. All in all, it was a great performance by the Lady Bulldogs. Freshman Janiesse Armstrong led Fisk with ten assists to support the offense.
