Lady Dawgs Get Sixth Straight Win in Victory Over Tougaloo
Seniors Maya Buckhanon and Zipporah Davis combined for 42 points in their final home game.
NASHVILLE – Senior Maya Buckhanon scored 25 points and classmate Zipporah Davis added 17 as the Fiak University Lady Bulldogs (17-7, 15-2 GCAC) defeated Tougaloo College (6-13, 5-12 GCAC) 77-54 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play from Nashville.
The game was never in doubt from the onset, as the Lady Bulldogs ran out to an early 15-5 lead and never looked back. They finished the first quarter up 27-9 and never looked back. The victory sets up a matchup for first place in the conference this Saturday at Rust College.
"I was actually afraid of this game for many reasons," said Head Coach Victoria Crawford. "This team upset Philander (Smith University) and we had some adversity with our gym this morning. Plus, I didn't want us to look ahead to Saturday. I still say that we have a lot to work on. We better get it straight quick."
Junior A'Niya Young recorded her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Jayla Bibbs also grabbed 10 boards and was close to getting a triple double as she scored eight points and six assists and four steals.
The Lady Dawgs will travel to Mississippi to on Rust College in the final regular season game.
