Lady Dawgs Open Conference Against Rival Oakwood
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (November 14, 2024) – The Fisk University Lady Bulldog basketball team will jump into HBCU Athletic Conference play tonight when they take on the Oakwood University Lady Ambassadors in Huntsville, Alabama (5 p.m. HBCU Plus).
In their last time out, the Lady Bulldogs (0-2) played well but fell to the University of Mobile 60-57 on Saturday. Jayla Bibbs scored 17 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and had five steals to earn the HBCU Defensive Player of the Week. After playing three tough teams, including an exhibition against Trevecca Nazarene to start the season, Fisk looks the get on the winning side of things.
"We have progress with each game we have played," said Fisk head coach Victoria Crawford. "Now it is time to get focused on the task at hand. Oakwood is not an easy place to play. Their crowd can make it hard on you. They are well-coached and have some nice pieces. We need to start fast and maintain to come out with a win."
KEY MATCHUP
Whoever controls the paint should come out with a victory. Oakwood freshman Sania Keys has taken the country by storm. She is averaging 24.7 points per game and 15.7 rebounds. Fisk post 6'3 Keeli Burton-Oliver and 6'2 Dee Scott will have their hands full trying to slow down Keys.
Game 3: Fisk University (0-2) at Oakwood University (1-2)
Date/Time: Thursday, November 14, 2024, 5:00 p.m. (CST)
