MARTIN, Tenn. (DECEMBER 27, 2024) – The Fisk University Lady Bulldogs will finish out the 2024 portion of their season when they travel to Martin, Tennessee to take on the UT Martin Skyhawks.
In Need of a Win
Fisk (5-8), losers of their last three, needs a win heading into 2025. Fruition has taken a toll on the roster, but that has given freshman Teniya Wiliams a chance to showcase her talent. The Wylie, Texas native has started the past seven games, scoring at least nine points in five of them. Her season-high of 17 points came in a home victory against Voorhees.
"She's a freshman and learning the life of a college student," said Fisk head coach Victoria Crawford. "She plays really good at home, but she needs to take that on the road with her. Hopefully this break will allow her to think about how to play more consistently.'
Division I Test
This will be UT Martin's final game before jumping into Ohio Valley Conference play for the rest of the regular season. They have played a tough schedule, including a trip to Hawaii where they lost to top ranked UCLA. They are 1-1 in conference play. They have a noticeable height advantage over the Lady Bulldogs.
Courtney Carrying
With key backcourt players out, senior Courtney Lumpkins has carried the bulk of the load in running the point guard position and scoring. Against the Virgin Islands, she scored a career-high 23 points. Lumpkins has scored in double figures the past four victories.
KEY MATCHUPS
UT Martin's motion offense depends on multiple players to get involved. The Lady Bulldogs will need to play solid and control the boards if Martin misses. Shae Littleford has been hot as of late. She scored 18 points the last time out against Southern Indiana. The Bulldogs will also need to key a strong watch on Kenley McCarn's strong inside and outside game. She is deadly from the charity stripe shooting 96 percent.
UP NEXT: The Lady Bulldogs will be back in HBCU Athletic Conference play when they travel to Talladega, Alabama to take on Tougaloo College.
