Lady Dawgs Advance in HBCUAC First Round
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (February 25, 2025) - Keeli Burton-Oliver led the fifth-seeded Fisk University Lady Bulldogs (11-16) to a decisive 71-54 victory over the twelfth-seeded Voorhees University Tigers in the first round of the HBCUAC Tournament. Burton-Oliver scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while head coach Victoria Crawford celebrated her 50th win at Fisk.
"I remember my SID (Scott Wallace) saying I was close (to winning her 50th) a couple of weeks ago," said Crawford. "I was so focused on getting the team ready that I forgot. I liked how we played in the middle quarters. I still want us to protect the ball better. We didn't let them get going. They have some players that can score. Now we need to get some rest because we have to be ready for Thursday."
The Lady Bulldogs dominated the second quarter, outscoring Voorhees 21-6 with a 14-0 run to start the period. They extended their lead to 21 points early in the third quarter and built up to a 26-point lead before easing to victory.
Courtney Lumpkins provided strong support with 17 points and seven assists. Freshman Kayla Lee added 13 points before fouling out, while Jayla Bibbs contributed 12 points, 11 rebounds, four steals, and a block.
Next, the Lady Bulldogs will face a challenging Philander Smith team, who won against the Virgin Islands earlier in the day.
