Lady Dawgs Defeat Stillman in Low Scoring Affair
Fisk breaks 12 game losing streak to go to 3-0 at Stillman this season.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Fisk University women's basketball team (5-14, 2-7 HBCUAC) started fast, taking a 20-10 lead in the first quarter, then rallied at the end to defeat the Stillman College Tigers (12-8, 7-3 HBCUAC) 43-39 in a defensive slugfest at Stillman's Birthright Alumni Hall.
The victory was the first one for Fisk since November 20, 2025, snapping a 12-game losing streak.
"It is difficult playing here because of the environment," said Fisk head coach Victoria Crawford. "We are shorthanded, so we needed everyone to play their role. I can look back and see how every point, every defensive stop, and every minute counted. I am very proud of this team. Stillman is tough especially here."
The first quarter ended with a half court basket by Teniya Williams, which turned out to be the only three-point basket for the Lady Bulldogs for the game. Stillman chipped away and finally took their first lead of the game late in the fourth quarter. Down 39-36, freshman Ari Branch (17 points) scored two tough baskets in the paint to take the lead back, and senior Dee Scott (13 points, 12 rebounds) scored the final three points on a post basket off a beautiful feed from Williams, and a free throw with 13 seconds left. Fisk finished the game on a 7-0 run to seal the deal.
The Lady Bulldogs held Tiger star Jaida Minter to nine points. Fisk sophomore Kayla Lee, who guarded Minter most of the game, played another big game on the defensive end, finishing with six points and six steals. Fisk is 3-0 at Stillman this season after winning their first two games in the Stillman Classic.
