Lee Leads Lady Bulldogs to Fourth Straight Win with Triple-Double Against Simmons College
Fisk University Outlasts Falcons as Lee Shuts Down Morgan Defoor, Ari Branch and Teniya Williams Shine
LOUISVILLE, KY. — The atmosphere was electric at St. Stephens Family Life Center as the Fisk University Lady Bulldogs faced off against the Simmons College Falcons in a high-stakes nonconference matchup. With both teams eyeing postseason momentum, the Lady Bulldogs stepped onto the court determined to extend their winning streak and make a statement against a tough Simmons squad led by sharpshooter Morgan Defoor.
The opening quarter saw Fisk jump out to an early lead, fueled by quick scoring from Ari Branch and aggressive rebounding from Teniya Williams. The Lady Bulldogs set the tone with a 10-2 run, forcing Simmons into hurried shots. Kayla Lee's defensive presence was felt immediately, as she disrupted passing lanes and challenged every possession. By halftime, Fisk held a 38-18 advantage.
In the third quarter, Simmons responded. Defoor came alive, draining back-to-back three-pointers to cut the deficit and spark a Falcons rally. Her scoring flurry helped Simmons stay within reach
The fourth quarter belonged to Kayla Lee. She took over on both ends, orchestrating the offense, crashing the glass, and locking down Simmons' top threat. Lee finished the game with a remarkable triple-double—35 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 steals—while three blocks. Her defensive effort against Defoor was the turning point, as Fisk went on a decisive 14-4 run that sealed the victory. Branch ended with ten points, and Williams collected 14 rebounds, both playing crucial roles in the Lady Bulldogs' fourth consecutive win.
Defoor finished with a team-high 17 points but was held in check in the final minutes thanks to Lee's commitment and the Bulldogs' team defense. After the game, Coach Crutcher praised Lee's performance: "Kayla's intensity and focus set the standard for us tonight. Our plan was to limit Defoor's touches and trust Kayla to lead both defensively and offensively. She delivered exactly what this team needed." Lee echoed the sentiment, saying, "We knew if we stayed aggressive and played together, we could finish strong."
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs stay on a roll as they jump back into conference play to finish the season. On Saturday they will be at home to take on Oakwood University, followed by a home matchup on Monday against Wilberforce University. They will finish their regular season with a road tilt against Rust College.
