Lady Dawgs Take on SUNO in Opening Round Action
Fisk looks to get back to their winning ways against a tough SUNO team.
TUSCALOOSA, AL. - The Fisk University Lady Bulldogs face a tall order in the opening round of the 2026 Hope Credit Union HBCUAC Women's Championships as they square off against the Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO). This marks the second meeting between the two squads this season, and if the first contest is any indicator, fans are in for a tightly contested battle. In their previous matchup on February 7, 2026, the Lady Bulldogs surged ahead with a 22-13 third-quarter advantage and managed to hold on for a gritty 66-63 victory on the road in New Orleans.
Senior Dee Scott was dominant in that game, posting a double-double with 22 points, while the dynamic duo of Kayla Lee and Ari Branch each contributed 17 points. Lee nearly recorded a rare 5-by-5 performance, stuffing the stat sheet with 12 rebounds, seven steals, and five assists. However, Fisk's defense will again be tested by SUNO sharpshooter Jordan Harris, who tallied 15 points and knocked down three of her five attempts from beyond the arc. With so much at stake, expect an intense rematch as these teams battle for a spot in the next round.
Fisk, coming in on a four-game losing streak, will need to play their A game to defeat a scrappy SUNO team.
The winner will take on Philander Smith University on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
