Gymnastics Achieves Season High in Atlanta

After a successful Friday night at the Centenary Tri Meet, the Fisk University Bulldogs maintained that confident energy in Atlanta. The team scored 190.525 for a season high score.
"This was a true testament to getting one tenth better with each turn," said Fisk head coach Nuriya Mack. "This was a good weekend for us. Winning on Friday and getting our highest score of the season two weeks later is great. We have one more meet. Hopefully we will have another good week of practice."
Fisk opened the competition on the uneven bars, an event that just keeps getting more consistent for this team. Freshman Kennedi Johnson started the lineup, showing true determination and grit. Senior Zyia Coleman followed with a well-earned season high score of 9.55. Junior Ciniah Rosby built upon Coleman's score with the highest bar score of the afternoon, 9.65. Sophomore Aiyana Thomas showed off her hard work in the gym with an excellent catch and a 9.375. Junior Sophia Pratt also achieved a season high score of 8.8. Freshman Hadassah Diggs wrapped up the rotation with a clean 9.05.
Moving on to the balance beam, senior Aliyah Reed-Hammon led the Bulldogs well with the highest beam score of the afternoon, a 9.775. Following her lead, Diggs added a solid 9.55 to the mix. Johnson fought well in her beam routine to support her team. Rosby delivered a beautiful routine earning a 9.65. To finish off the lineup, Pratt—hot off a season high score this past Friday—earned a clean 9.5. Senior Allie Berkley showed excellent lines and beauty to finish with a 9.075.
The floor exercise has proven to be a favorite event of Fisk and the fans alike. Johnson led the lineup with a well-danced routine earning her a season high score, 9.725. To keep that energy going, Reed-Hammon also achieved a season high score, 9.8. Senior Liberty Mora made her presence known with an energetic routine and 9.65. Berkley once again showcased the balance of power and elegance, earning a 9.625. Rosby added a confident 9.675 and to finish the rotation, Coleman tacked on a 9.45. Overall, floor was the highest scoring event for the Bulldogs.
Lastly, the Bulldogs made their way to the vault. Johnson began the rotation with a 9.475. Coleman followed with a 9.425. Diggs earned the final season high of the afternoon with a 9.625. Both Rosby and Reed-Hammon made sure to help their team with 9.65s. Berkley completed the vault rotation with a strong and confident 9.675.
