Volley Dogs Head North for a Three Match Weekend

Fisk takes on HBCUAC foe Wilberforce on Friday, then two games on Saturday.

WILBERFORCE, OH. (October 11, 2024) – Playing away from the friendly confines of Henderson A. Johnson Arena is not foreign to the Fisk Lady Bulldog Volleyball Team. This weekend, they continue their extended road trip, first traveling to Ohio to take on Wilberforce University on Friday, then playing two games in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs (16-12, 9-0 HBCUAC) would try to go a perfect 10-0 in conference play against a struggling Wilberforce team (2-18, 2-7 HBCUAC).

Coming off an injury, utility player Laila Esters has led Fisk in the past two games with ten kills in each match. Setter Trinity Britt has continued to be consistent, quarterbacking the offense to the tune of 19 assists in three sets in the victory over Rust College on Tuesday.

On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs will exit conference play when they take on the University of Northwest Ohio (14-12) and host Indiana Tech (16-8).

KEYS TO THIS WEEKEND:

Against Wilberforce:

Fisk must keep momentum from the first match-up against Wilberforce and not look ahead. A solid first set will be the key to making quick work so they can rest for the Saturday matches.

Against Northwest Ohio:

The Lady Bulldogs will have to try to neutralize UNOH's strong defense. Middle blocker Gianna San Filippo was named NAIA National Defender of the Week on October 1. The matchup between Fisk middle Sydney Willis and San Filippo should be exciting.

Against Indiana Tech:

Indiana Tech has been tough at home (12-2), so it will be necessary for Fisk to set the tone early. The Lady Bulldogs will need to rely on their strong transition game to be a key to keeping up with Tech. Liberio Nialah Gupton will need to be solid on the backend.
