Fisk University Bulldog Track Teams Shine at Rhodes College 7-Way Meet
Impressive Performances Mark Continued Progress
MEMPHIS – The Fisk University Bulldog Track Teams have demonstrated significant improvement since the start of the Outdoor season. At the Rhodes College 7-Way Meet on Saturday, the teams combined for five first-place finishes. Notably, three of these victories were earned by freshmen, highlighting their emerging talent, while graduate student Jackie Bownes secured two first-place finishes.
Coach's Perspective
"This meet is a good barometer for us to see where we are," commented the coach. "We have a young team full of freshmen and they are coming along. Jackie has been steady since coming to Fisk. She is a great leader of the young group. I am excited to see where we are once the conference meet comes."
Women's Team Highlights
Bownes, who recently earned the title of Field Athlete of the Week, took first place in both the Hammer Throw (38.11 meters) and Shot Put (12.66 meters). She also claimed second place in the Discus, recording a throw of 33.96 meters. Freshman Symora Prince closely followed Bownes, finishing third in the Discus (31.95 meters) and fourth in the Hammer Throw (31.85 meters).
Reigning Freshman of the Week Ari Branch distinguished herself by winning the Long Jump with a mark of 5.33 meters and placing fifth in the 100-meter dash (13.39 seconds). Makia Branch also contributed, finishing third in the Long Jump with a mark of 4.97 meters.
Men's Team Highlights
On the men's side, Jerome Malone claimed first place in the Hammer Throw (38.50 meters). Returning to Memphis, Mgdie Ali and Chris Washington delivered strong performances. Ali secured victory in the 110-meter Hurdles (16.05 seconds) and finished third in the 400-meter Hurdles (58.05 seconds). Washington took second place in the Long Jump (6.99 meters) and fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.39 seconds).
Kai Mangrum contributed a fourth-place finish in the Long Jump, while Kailon Taylor earned fourth place in the 400-meter dash, further strengthening the team's overall results.
