Fisk Bulldogs Triumph in Homecoming Clash Against Simmons College
NASHVILLE - The Fisk University Bulldogs delivered an impressive performance in front of a packed Henderson A. Johnson Arena, defeating Simmons College 85-69 in their Homecoming game. The victory was marked by a balanced team effort, with 12 different players contributing to the scoreboard, demonstrating Fisk's strong ball movement and depth.
Standout Performances Lead the Way
Mitch Seay and reserve Nicholas Beaird-Kennard both led the Bulldogs with 15 points apiece, setting the tone for the team's offensive strategy. Seay also dominated the boards, pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds and recording a double-double. Simeon Williams joined him in the double-double club, scoring 12 points—eight of which came from the free throw line—and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Off the bench, sharpshooter Kailon Benton-Hamilton added 13 points, providing a crucial spark. Freshman Kaleb Jeffries chipped in with 10 points, highlighting the contributions from Fisk's younger talent.
Key Moments: Dawgs' Run Secures Advantage
After the score was tied at 20, Fisk ignited a 9-0 run that proved to be the turning point in the game. Simmons College managed to narrow the gap to six points, but the Bulldogs responded decisively, surging ahead to a 20-point lead and maintaining control through the final buzzer.
Sharing the Ball and Building Chemistry
Coach Jeremiah Crutcher attributed the team's success to effective ball movement and the energy generated by the home crowd. "We kind of like playing at home especially with the crowd that we had," Crutcher noted. "We moved the ball well. That's why a lot of players were able to score. Those early games let us see what we need to do. We will get our rotations down before the conference season starts."
Looking Ahead
The Homecoming victory marked Fisk's first win of the season and showcased the potential of a roster that thrives on teamwork and depth. After playing six road games to start the season, Fisk is in the middle of a four of five games at home. With conference play approaching, the Bulldogs will look to build on this performance and continue refining their rotations for future success.
NEXT UP: The Dawgs will take on Wright State Lake Campus on Friday, November 14 at home.
