Dawgs Get Much Needed Home Win Against Crowley’s Ridge
NASHVILLE - After suffering a tough two home losses to Voorhees University and Talladega College, the Fisk University Bulldogs bounced back emphatically with an 83-67 nonconference win over Crowley's Ridge, ending their combined five game losing streak in front of 233 in attendance at the Henderson A. Johnson Arena.
"We worked on us to get better," said Fisk head coach Jeremiah Crutcher. "When you lose at home on last second shots, you tend to look at what you can do a little bit better. Our goal is to win conference. Playing a nonconference games, gives us a chance to work on things. We have two road conference games in a row. We have to get back on track if we want to reach our goals."
Fisk showcased a balanced offensive attack, with four players reaching double figures and Nicholas Beaird-Kennard leading the way with 22 points on efficient shooting. Kaleb Jeffries contributed 18 points off the bench, while Simeon Williams II recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, anchoring the team on both ends of the floor. Junior Mitch Seay also had a double-double of 12 points and ten rebounds.
The Bulldogs controlled the glass, out-rebounding Crowley's Ridge 49-35, and shot a solid 44.3% from the field, including an impressive 46.7% from three-point range. Their defensive intensity resulted in eight steals, and strong team play was reflected in their 24 assists. Mark Cooper orchestrated the offense with ten assists, while also adding five rebounds and two points. This collective effort allowed Fisk to maintain momentum and secure a much-needed victory, setting a positive tone for a huge HBCU Athletic Conference game this Saturday at Wilberforce University.
